2023 World Cup – Will Skelton finally withdraws from the match against Fiji

While uncertainty hovered around his presence for the match against Fiji this Sunday (5:45 p.m.), Will Skelton was finally withdrawn. The second row was injured in training this week after receiving a knock. He is replaced by Matt Philip in the group while Richie Arnold will start the match. Dave Porecki becomes captain.

Eddie Jones did not want to sound the alarm during the week regarding Will Skelton. The Wallabies captain injured his leg at the weekend during training. “He took a little knock at the end of training, so he’s just going through some extra medical work now. At this stage he’s still in the team, and we’ll give him until kick-off,” the technician declared. Only this Sunday, when he was to be tested during the warm-up of this tempting Fiji – Australia, the giant appeared on the Saint-Étienne lawn with a “boot” on his left foot.

Australia still handicapped

Australia then confirmed the bad news: Skelton was out of the match. An injury which brings several changes within the Australian group. Matt Philip thus joins the match sheet on the bench, while Richie Arnold will start against the Fijians. A new captain has also been named: hooker Dave Porecki.

A new blow for the Australians, who already have to do without Taniela Tupou, (hamstring) and Tate Mcdermott (concussion) for this meeting.
