F1 – Schumacher: The announcement that will not please

After a year spent waiting for a wheel to become available at Mercedes, Mick Schumacher will return to competition since he has signed up with Alpine and will participate in the Endurance championship. But recently, the German pilot made an announcement which risks causing tension internally. Indeed, he made it clear that his choice was motivated by the fact that Alpine is also in F1 and that this signing should allow him to find a seat in the premier category.

« A new challenge awaits me with Alpine in the Hypercar category of the FIA WEC championship. The car is impressive and I can’t wait to start this competition », Confided Mick Schumacher upon the announcement of his signing with Alpine. But the German driver does not intend to join his new team for the long term, he who sees it above all as a way to better bounce back in F1.

“I have the impression that this construction is a good deal”

« I think the link with Formula 1 is certainly an interesting factor. With the position that I can occupy at Mercedes, being a reserve driver there, with the position in WEC with Alpine, but also the fact that Alpine is in Formula 1, I have the impression that this construction is a good deal “, told Mick Schumacher in remarks relayed by Nextgen-Auto. This is not the first time he has made a statement of this kind.

Schumacher only thinks about F1

Mick Schumacher had already made the link between his arrival at Alpine and a possible return to Formula 1. « I don’t think there will be much coexistence between the pilot role and the reserve pilot role here, I don’t think it will be possible. But again, I think building a WEC entry with Alpine and the possibility of also promoting myself to Formula 1 with that, is a very interesting topic “, he declared. Mick Schumacher therefore sees much more personal than collective interests.
