NBA: After his attack, the Rockets make a big decision

Kevin Porter Jr.’s days with the Houston Rockets could be numbered in the NBA. The 23-year-old point guard was arrested for an alleged assault on his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, earlier in the week and the Rockets are looking to move him in exchange for compensation, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Kevin Porter Jr. is coming off his best season and posted career highs to date in points (19.2) and rebounds (5.3) last season as the starting point guard. Houston Rockets. He has shown marked improvement since his debut with the Texas franchise in 2020-21, but has often placed himself in the spotlight for negative reasons. This Monday, Porter has gone way too far by hitting his partner, forcing the NBA and the Rockets to react.

The Rockets want to force a trade

Arrested by the police and immediately taken into custody, Kevin Porter Jr. risks spending some time in prison and never returning to the NBA courts. However, pending the league’s investigation, Rockets have decided to place their leader on the transfer list according to The Athletic. To convince a team to recover the contract of KPJ, Houston leaders are ready to include one or more draft rounds in the balance. Their objective being to obtain in return a player capable of helping them to be competitive immediately, while the 30th choice of the 2019 Draft should not appear at his franchise’s training camp in early October anyway.

Why would a franchise get Porter Jr?

Kevin Porter Jr. currently has only one fully guaranteed year of his contract even though it was extended for four years in the fall of 2022. This contract could therefore allow a franchise to recover the leader and release him immediately in exchange of an unwanted player by getting their hands on draft picks. Hard to see Porter be relaunched by a franchise, although Miles Bridges – tried for similar facts – either still in the NBA, but if the Rockets can get something out of it, they will not deprive themselves.
