Jake O’Brien received a one-match suspension and a one-match suspended sentence. Less lenient sanction for the Croatian, suspended for two matches.
The two central defenders left their mark on the match against Le Havre last Sunday. But not in a good way. Their poorly controlled tackles earned the Irishman Jake O’Brien and the Croatian Duje Caleta-Car a straight red. As well as a summons before the LFP disciplinary committee this Wednesday. They were accompanied Laurent Prud’homme, the general director of OL, and Jean Sudres, sports legal manager to plead their case.
The two players necessarily risked more than one match suspension, due to this direct red card. In a match including the refereeing of Gaël Angoula caused a lot of ink to flow, O’Brien initially received a yellow card. Card which turned red after intervention by the VAR. The 22-year-old Irishman was ultimately sanctioned with a firm suspension and another suspended match. As planned, he will miss the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Friday against Bergerac. However, he should apply for the 19th day of Ligue 1 against Rennes (Friday January 26 at home).
Sage forced to overhaul his central defense
The verdict was less lenient for the Croatian defender, guilty of a sole on Le Havre He killed in the 90th minute. After another VAR intervention, the referee sent Duje Caleta-Car to the locker room. The disciplinary committee decided to suspend him for two firm matches. He will therefore miss the Cup match and the following against the Bretons in L1. The former Marseillais will only be able to reunite with his teammates for the Olympico, at home on February 4.
Pierre Sage will have to do without its two elements in central defense in the Cup against Bergerac (N2) on Friday. He will nevertheless be able to count on the return of Dejan Lovren. Indeed, the Croatian has served his two suspension matches. The OL coach should also give playing time to the Brazilian rookie, Adryelson. At least an hour if Sage puts him in the starting lineup. “A tenure would be a very good thing for himthe Rhone coach confirmed this Wednesday. It will be important not to create physical problems for him. We are therefore on a double logic, preserving it, but also making it perform.“
