In bad shape for a good part of their match against Montpellier, Olympique Lyonnais managed to reverse the trend at the end of the match to finally win 2-1. A success which validates Lyon’s renewal.
Little by little, the Rhone club is emerging from the crisis. It must be said that theOL has just had a pretty crazy week, between its victory in the Olympico against Marseille last weekend (1-0), its qualification for the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France against Lille on Wednesday (2-1) and its essential success in Montpellier this Sunday (2-1). This last meeting, however, got off to a bad start, knowing that for an hour, OL were far from imagining a victory following the opening score of the MHSC via the former Stéphanois Nordin (23rd). But thanks to goals from the home saviors, namely Lacazette (74th) and Caqueret (82nd), Lyon finally turned things around to secure a fifth victory in seven days of the championship. With this good result against a direct competitor in the fight for maintenance, OL gives itself some breathing room by taking three points ahead of the play-off, Lorient, from its thirteenth place in the standings. This mental victory represents the new OL quite well, the one built by Pierre Sage over the past few weeks. After the match, Maxence Caqueret, author of the magnificent victorious goal, was delighted with the new state of mind of Les Gones.

“I think this is the new face of this team: we don’t give up, we manage to keep the good mentality from start to finish. This is what we saw against Montpellier this Sunday by scoring at the end of the match and winning. We were keen to continue a third match with a victory knowing that we were tied on points with Montpellier. Now we will have to continue against Nice, be strong and prepare well. The reasons for the renewal? It is a whole. Coach Pierre Sage managed to implement what he wanted, he took the time to explain his tactics and the project he wanted to bring to us. The recruits also do us a lot of good. But it is above all the mentality that has changed. We feel a real group that wants to climb the rankings and win its matches. And that’s what makes the difference today”explained, at the microphone of Canal+ Foot, the Lyon hero of the day, who sees that his OL is becoming again the great club that it has been in recent years.
