Tennis: Federer close to tennis, a real ambition

Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis since childhood and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them about them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

Officially retired for a year, Roger Federer has moved away a little from the world of tennis. The Swiss, who ended his career at the age of 41, wanted to enjoy his family away from the cameras but he still proudly continues to take care of his competition, the Laver Cup. This weekend, some of the best players in the world shone in a competition that is close to the heart of the Maestro.

Nobody forgot Roger Federer. Even less his goodbye to the world of tennis, a year ago in London in the company of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray among others. The Swiss, a true legend of the sport, attracts crowds wherever he goes and one year, he did not make many appearances. However, he confided on the court to Vancouver that he intended to maintain a certain proximity to tennis.

A series of exhibitions?

Even before putting away the snowshoes, Roger Federer was already thinking about his future after tennis. He has mentioned on several occasions the possibility of organizing exhibitions all over the world, a bit like the Making Cup. Obviously, despite his knee, he remains an artist with racket in hand, as he proved by exchanging a few balls with some Canadian hopefuls on Friday. “I have a lot of friends around the world who I miss, and of course I miss tennis and competition, especially the heated moments of big matches, the atmosphere in the biggest stadiums in the world. Without a doubt, I would do everything I did again if I could.” did he declare.

Proximity to tennis

Since a year, Roger Federer often refused invitations to fully enjoy the end of his career. The Maestro still wants to stay close to his sport, as he confided on the court. “I made a promise to myself after my retirement, that of not being a stranger on the circuit by remaining close to tennis. I don’t plan to travel all the time, but having been to Halle, Wimbledon and now here makes me very happy.” he said.

Hard blow to the Laver Cup

While he took the lead in defending his competition at the end of last week, Roger Federer must not be very satisfied with the 2023 edition. In addition to the lack of spectacle due to the overwhelming victory of the Team Worldit is above all the lack of consistency between the expectations of all the players which raises questions.
