OL are still actively working to find Laurent Blanc’s successor. If Fabio Grosso has taken a step forward to become a coach, other avenues are being studied. One of them sends the Lyonnais to Romania.
Despite the absence of a European Cup this season, theOL is engaged in a tour of Europe at the beginning of September. Indeed, the Lyonnais are looking for a coach to succeed Laurent Blanc. If Jean-Michel Aulas favored French or French-speaking coaches for the position, John Textor does not care about the passport of his targets. Gattuso, Lampard, Potter and Grosso were followed. The last one, who recently passed through Frosinone, has been holding the rope for several hours. However, the Lyon management, discreet and mysterious, is looking at other profiles. He is also offered names, sometimes surprising, as revealed by Foot Mercato.
Cypriot Charalambous offered to OL
The media indicates that OL have been offered the young Cypriot coach Elias Charalambous (42 years old) in recent days. This former international left-back is currently in Romania where he successfully manages FCSB (new name of Steaua Bucharest since 2017). He is doing a good job since his club is leader of the Romanian championship thanks to 6 wins in the first 7 matches.

This young coach already has solid experience on the benches: AEK Larnaca (Cyprus), Hatta Club (United Arab Emirates), Ethnikos (Cyprus) and Doxa Katokopias (Cyprus) before Romania now. OL carefully studied the Charalambous option and kept it in the back of their minds in case Fabio Grosso decided not to come after all. With Textor at the helm, we can truly say that OL is exploring new horizons, whether for players or coaches.
