Tennis: Rune on the verge of physical breakdown, he wants to believe it!

Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis since childhood and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them about them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

Great tennis hope, Holger Rune has just had two great seasons. The 20-year-old Dane has however shown difficulties recently since he has not won a match since his quarter-final at Wimbledon. Embarrassed by his back and internally disturbed by the little squabble between his coach and Patrick Mouratoglou, he is ready for the fight according to his press conference held before his entry into the running in Beijing, an extremely tough tournament.

World number 4 since this summer, Holger Rune hasn’t really been able to take advantage of this ranking lately. The Dane has been carrying a back injury since clay and he put in a lot of effort until Wimbledon, which didn’t necessarily help him. His back hurts him especially when serving but he must recover quickly if he doesn’t want to miss out on the end of the season. As a reminder, he will be the title holder at Bercy where he caused a sensation last year and he is still far from assured of participating in the Masters.

Great comeback ?

On paper, we can’t really say that Holger Rune was particularly spoiled by the draw. The tournament of Beijing being very tough, he will face Félix Auger-Aliassime Friday, 15th in the world. The Canadian has been in doubt for several months but is coming off a good Making Cup. On the Dane’s side, the lights seem to be green if his words are to be believed. “I struggled with a back injury for a while. I had him treated. I played many tournaments with a lot of back pain, but I ended up saying to myself: ‘Okay, I have to stop to treat my injury and not play any more tournaments until I’m 100%’. . This is also why I am here. I’m ready and excited for what’s next.” he confides.

A break not enough?

When his back injury occurred during the tournament Rome if we are to believe his mother’s words, Holger Rune initially chose to play despite suffering. But the Dane surely tried too hard and ended up exploding during the summer, suffering four defeats in as many matches. He therefore chose to resume the competition a little later than planned, when he was supposed to go and play the Making Cup last week. Let’s hope for his sake that he had time to recover.

An end of season not to be missed

By reaching the quarter-finals twice in Grand Slam this season and two finals in Masters 1000it would be a shame to see Holger Rune absent from Masters of Turin. The young Dane is currently in eighth place in the Race and he must avoid losing control. Recently surpassed by Alexander Zverevhe is only a few points ahead Taylor Fritz and behind the gap is bigger.
